Welcome letter

Dear Students, Parents, and Coquihalla Families,

It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new principal at Coquihalla Elementary School. I am honoured to have the opportunity to lead a school with a dedicated staff, supportive community, and kind children. Although I do not officially start until January 4th, I have already met with administration and some staff. I am confident we will meet the academic, social/emotional, and physical needs of the students despite these trying times. I am looking forward to partnering with families and the school community to have a great 2021!

I have the privilege of being the principal at Silver Creek Elementary since 2011. I have been in the field of education since 1997 including teaching in remote places like Bella Bella and Canoe Creek. I started out in School District 78 with a temporary contract at CE Barry, then Boston Bar, and in 2005 I became the grade 7 teacher at Silver Creek.

On a personal note, my wife and I moved to the community in 2000. My daughter and son both went to Coquihalla Elementary and graduated from Hope Secondary. They both completed diplomas in post-secondary institutions and are working towards their degrees. Hope has been a great place to raise children and to work in the education field. I enjoy the outdoors including hiking, snowshoeing, and biking.

Education is a life-long process and I expect to learn much about the unique qualities of Coquihalla. Most importantly, students are at the center of all school related decisions. The relationship between families and the school are crucial to the success of students. I encourage you to be involved in every way possible.

I would like to thank the staff for a warm welcome even before I entered the building. The texts, emails, and call were really appreciated! The board office has been very supportive as well. I will work diligently to continue to provide an excellent educational experience at Coquihalla.
